Behind the paintbrush

Behind the paintbrush

The truth is that the process of being an artist is not a seamless experience. What you may perceive as all joy and fluidity doesn’t show the absolute chaos and roller coaster of emotions that sometimes I experience. To create feels deeply vulnerable- you put your heart and soul on display- open to either external criticism or even worse- self criticism.

Some pieces go perfectly to plan, but more often than not pieces at times leave me feeling frustrated and unresolved. I can be left in a state of tension between what is, and wanting the piece to look the same as in my mind’s eye.

Eventually I arrive and all the worries and emotions seem to fade away with the joy of a resolved piece. Ready again for the waves of new emotions that come with another.

What a joy to create and what a joy to be fully alive.
